What is an underwater scooter?

A sea scooter is a small battery-powered propeller, or jet, that you hold in front of you. You press the trigger and it pulls you through the water at walking or jogging pace.

You use less air and less energy, so you see more of the reef in the same time. Release the trigger and it stops. The Sublue scooters float gently when you let go, so they come back up to you.

Around Samui the water is warm and calm for most of the year, which makes it an easy place to learn: start in the pool at the hotel, then take it to the reef.

Questions we get every week

Something missing? Ask us on WhatsApp.

How deep can I go with a Sublue scooter?

Every scooter in the 2026 range is rated to 40 m. The H1 phone housing is rated to 10 m. On the Mix and Mix Pro, take the float off before going below 5 m.

The scooter's rating is not a diving limit: always stay within the depth of your own diving certification.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 45 minutes on the WhiteShark Mix, about 60 minutes on the Mix Pro, Navbow, Navbow+ and Vapor, and up to 2 hours on the Vapor Pro with both batteries. Higher speeds use the battery faster.

How fast do they go?

From 5.8 km/h on the WhiteShark Mix to 12 km/h on the Vapor Pro. For comparison, a strong swimmer with fins reaches about 2 to 3 km/h.

Which model should I start with?

The WhiteShark Mix if you snorkel and want something light. The Navbow if you dive with tanks or want one scooter for the whole family, thanks to its slow mode. Come and try both at Seya before you decide.

Can children use one?

Yes, in the pool or calm water, and always with an adult next to them. The WhiteShark Mix is the lightest and the easiest to hold. Check the minimum age in the user manual.

Can I take it on a plane?

The Mix, Mix Pro, Navbow and Navbow+ batteries are between 100 and 160 Wh. Most airlines accept them in cabin baggage with their approval, so ask the airline before you fly. The Vapor and Vapor Pro batteries are above 160 Wh and cannot fly.

Does it work in a pool and in fresh water?

Yes. Pools are the best place to learn. After every use in the sea, rinse and soak the scooter in fresh water to remove salt.

Do I need a licence or training?

No licence is needed to ride a scooter while snorkeling. For scuba diving with one, you need a diving certification and should stay within its limits. We show you the controls when you pick it up.

Can I try one before buying?

Yes. Send us a WhatsApp message to book a test in the pool at Seya, our hotel on Koh Samui.

Who repairs it if something goes wrong?

We do. As an authorized Sublue partner we handle warranty claims and repairs from Koh Samui. See the warranty page for the details.
